9 Signs It's Time to Treat Yourself (Without Feeling Guilty)

I hear this all the time at Seaport:

"I've been meaning to book an appointment..."

Usually it's followed by "...but life has just been so busy."

I get it. Between work, family, errands, appointments, and everything else on our calendars, it's incredibly easy to put ourselves at the bottom of the list. But here's something I remind my guests—and honestly, myself—often: taking care of yourself isn't something you have to earn.

If you've been wondering whether it's finally time to schedule a little self-care, here are a few signs I think are worth paying attention to.

1. You can't remember your last haircut.

If you're trying to think back and honestly aren't sure when your last trim was...it's probably time.

Regular trims aren't just about appearances—they help prevent split ends from traveling farther up the hair shaft, keeping your hair healthier and making it easier to style.

2. Your shoulders seem to live by your ears.

Stress has a funny way of showing up in our bodies.

If you've noticed tight shoulders, tension headaches, or you're constantly clenching your jaw, your body might be asking for a break. A massage, quiet afternoon, or even an hour away from your phone can make a bigger difference than you might expect.

3. You've been saying, "I'll book next month" for...well...months.

We've all done it.

Life rarely slows down on its own. Sometimes you have to intentionally create space for yourself instead of waiting for the perfect time.

4. Your skincare routine has become whatever's easiest.

If washing your face with hand soap (please don't!) or skipping moisturizer altogether has become the norm, it may be time to hit the reset button.

Healthy skin doesn't require dozens of products, it just needs a little consistency.

5. You're taking care of everyone except yourself.

As parents, caregivers, business owners, partners, and friends, we spend so much energy making sure everyone else is okay.

You deserve that same care, too.

6. You feel like you're always rushing.

One of my favorite parts of owning Seaport is watching people slow down.

For an hour or two, they set their phones aside, breathe a little deeper, and simply exist without feeling like they need to be somewhere else. Those moments matter.

7. Your hair doesn't feel like you anymore.

Maybe it's dry. Maybe it's grown out. Maybe you're just ready for something fresh.

You don't have to make a dramatic change. Sometimes a simple refresh is exactly what you need.

8. You feel guilty for spending time on yourself.

This might be the biggest sign of all.

Somewhere along the way, many of us learned that self-care is selfish or indulgent. I don't believe that.

When you take care of yourself, you usually have more patience, more energy, and more joy to share with the people around you.

9. You simply need a quiet hour.

Honestly, that reason is enough.

You don't need a birthday, vacation, or special occasion to book a facial, massage, haircut, or spa day.

Sometimes you just need a little space to breathe.

And I think that's always worth making time for.
